Sunday School Class

My buddy and I are kicking around the idea of teaching a Sunday School Class together at New Hope Church in Manhattan, KS. If anyone's making their way to these words and has some interest in this item let me know what's up. More on the way later...

By the way, we're a bit old school so we might stick with the old school phrase, "Sunday School Class."

"Give God a Chance to Forgive"

Today I saw the sentence "Give God a Chance to Forgive" on the billboard for the First Baptist Church here in Manhattan, KS. I'm still trying to understand what that sign means. Christ already forgave on the cross. He laid His life down for the elect. When He said, "It is finished," He meant it. He's not sitting around waiting for us to give Him a chance, a possibility, to forgive. When He intends to forgive He does it. Maybe the sign should say, "Repent and turn from your sin to Christ." At any rate, this line of thought brings up the doctrine of limited atonement but I'm not sure if anyone out there really wants to hear about that...

God's Glory

As I was reading through the laws given in Exodus I was thinking again about how God commands His people to utterly destroy the nations that are pitted against His chosen people. One example is in Exodus 23:24 where God says, "You shall not bow down to their gods nor serve them, nor do as they do, but you shall utterly overthrow them and break their pillars in pieces (ESV)." God cares more about His glory than He cares about the comfort of the beings He has created. Many think that this means that God is selfish and mean. No, this means that God is Sovereign Creator. If He were to undermine His own glory then He would capitulate His reign on earth. If that were to happen then I doubt we would be too comfortable with whoever else would rule instead, especially since the true God is good. He is just and merciful. Fortunately, we get to share in His glory through the provision of the atoning work of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Theology: -theo=God, -ology=the study of

I want to be a student of God much in the same way that I want to be a student of my wife. I want to know her. I want to know God. I want to be known by her. I want to be known by God.

Theology has been slammed by some these days because people are tired of stale academia, so am I. I want a vibrant relationship with the true, living God. That's why doctrine is important to me.

This blog should serve as an outlet for me to process as well as a resource for others on the journey with me. Thanks for reading...
